Issue: Week 17 2017
Hey, Thriving Artist
Here are the stories from the studio that I thought you might find interesting this week.
I have been spending a lot of time this week thinking about consistency this week. The fact that I can be poor at it, and the reality that we need it if we are going to succeed as artists. This quote from one of my heros buts it into context of what is at the heart of consistency.
“Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.” – Maya Angelou
I thought I would share this article with you by Yann Girard on perfectionism vs consistency. It might be an older article but I really think for those of us who get stuck in wanting to get things right it is an amazing place to start,
I know I shared this link with you earlier on in the week, but I think it is a really good starting point when we are thinking or growing our list.
In this free course Sean shares with you the 4 things you need to grow your email list, and he talks sense.
You can find his Build an Audience course here
So as part of the challenge I’ve set myself, the 100k fan challenge I’ve set up a Patreon page. Its a bit like a kickstarter campaign but for artists where we get supported month after month, or potentially for each project.
Currently my artist page is hiding as I focus on creating this new page as part of the challenge to set up Thriving Artist. The point being so that we can learn together as I make this happen.
You can find the Thriving Artists Patreon page here
How many of you are parents are coping with the Easter holiday break?
Honestly having the kids around is causing me to struggle with the noise and the chaos. There is part of me that is simply wanting to hide away, from everyone, from my art and stay under my duvet covers.
I know I “shouldn’t” feel this way about my kids but the truth is from time to time I do.
This is the top 10 tips from “Skills You Need” which have really helped me get through this holiday break. Maybe I’m sharing them a little late, but our next holidays are the big ones, and its worth getting prepared now.
The Sunday Studio training that I will be sending you this week is on how to set up a Patreon page. I’ve used it for my art page and it really works, but lets go through creating a Patreon page together.
I will be sending you out the link on Sunday where you can watch it.

Studio Stories Assignment for this week
Every week I will be giving you a challenge so that you can up level your creativity and art biz.
The week I would like to make a book recommendation for you “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield.
This is one of those books that when it was first recommended to me I was put off by the title. It however is one of those books that has the power to change the way that you view your art. I can not recommend it highly enough.
My challenge to you this week is to head over to Patreon and see what you think of it.
There are people I know who are making an amazing living through doing this. In fact I was told of someone who makes $32,000 every time the post a finished product. Yes you did read that right.
Clearly this is the exception rather than the rule, but check it out and let me know what you think. Is it something that could work for you?
To be honest when I first logged in I was overwhelmed… but that’s why we’re going to be building our sites together.
I thought I would share this article from Medium. Its a really interesting take on how Noah Bradley become an Artist. Check it out. He shares some interesting observations which may make a difference for you.
